JUAN'S BIRTHDAY PARTY 

Cause: Juan will have Ana decorate the house and prepare the food and drinks for the party. Luis will be hired by Juan to be the DJ for the party, while Sofia will be hired by Juan to organize games and activities to keep the guests entertained. Juan will ask Carlos to take pictures and videos of the party so that the guests will have memories of the event. Maria will be asked by Juan to clean up before, during and after the party.

Causative passive: Juan's house will be decorated and the food and drinks will be prepared by Ana, following Juan's instructions. Music and ambiance will be provided by Luis, who has been hired by Juan to be the DJ for the party. Sofia will be in charge of organizing games and activities to keep the guests entertained during the party.

Carlos will be the party photographer, appointed by Juan to take photos and videos of the guests so they have memories of the event. The clean-up before, during and after the party will be entrusted to Maria, who has been asked by Juan to take care of this task.

The party will begin with Juan welcoming the guests and showing them around the house. Once all the guests have arrived, Ana will finish decorating the house and prepare the food and drinks. Luis will begin to play music and liven up the party.

Sofia will organize a board game for the guests at 8:30 PM, while Carlos will start taking pictures and videos of the guests at 9:00 PM.

At 10:00 PM, Maria will begin the clean-up process, making sure the house is clean before and after the party. Finally, at 11:00 PM Juan will thank the guests for coming and say goodbye to them.

Poe: Yes, there is a vegetarian restaurant a few blocks from here. Would you like directions there?

Kate: Yes, please.

(Poe gives Kate directions to the restaurant)

Kate: Have you eaten at that restaurant before?

Poe: Yes, I've eaten there several times. The food is very good and there are lots of vegetarian options.

Kate: Great, thanks for your help. Do you think I need to make a reservation?

Poe: That might be a good idea, especially if you go during rush hour. Do you want me to help you make a reservation?

Kate: Yes, please.

(Poe helps Sara make the reservation.)

Kate: Thank you for your help, Poe. That's very kind of you.

Poe: No problem, enjoy your meal.

Poe: Yes, on the corner of this street.

Mark: Thanks. Is it still working?

Poe: Yes, it is.

Poe: Yes, another one a few blocks down the road.

Poe: No problem.

Poe: Yes, there's one a few blocks from here, do you need to make an urgent call?

Lucas: Yes, I need to call my brother to come and pick me up. Can you direct me there? 

Poe: Sure, follow me.

(Poe leads Lucas to the pay phone.)

Lucas: Have you used this phone before?

Poe: Yes, I've used it several times. It works fine.

Lucas: Do you think I need coins to make the call?

Poe: No, this phone accepts credit cards and there is also a collect call option.

Lucas: Okay, thanks for the information.

Poe: Do you need help making the call?

Lucas: No, thank you. I think I can do it myself.

Poe: Okay. If you need anything else, let me know.

Lucas: Thank you, Poe. That's very kind of you.

Poe: No problem, I hope you can contact your brother soon.

Poe: I'm not sure, but we can ask at the ticket office.

(Ana buys her ticket at the ticket office)

Ana: How long does the trip to Mexico City take?

Poe: Normally, the trip takes about 4 hours.

Ana: Okay, thanks for the information, do you know if there is any place to buy food at the station?

Poe: Yes, there is a small store on the corner that sells fast food and drinks.

Ana: Perfect, thanks for everything, Poe.
